Senior Analyst / Newly Qualified Actuary - Brisbane / Melbourne
We are seeking highly capable senior analysts or newly qualified Actuaries to work across both our marketing analytics and insurance practices. While the positions will be tailored to the prior experience and skills of the successful applicant, ideally you will have:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong technical ability, including a proven track record in working with advanced modelling techniques
- An ability to think laterally and develop innovative solutions to a wide range of problems
- A willingness to assist in business development, with demonstrable commercial aptitude
- An interest in working outside traditional areas and a solid grasp of the broader commercial context
- At least 3 years of practical experience, most likely from general insurance, finance or banking, but possibly from other fields

We are seeking junior analysts to support both marketing and general insurance related client work. Summer Vacation Program
Quantium's vacation program provides students in their penultimate year of university a great opportunity to ‘kick-start' their careers before leaving university. You'll be working as part of our dynamic team, obtaining exposure to real client work, and gaining valuable experience about working life.
The program runs each year for approximately eight to ten weeks, generally between December and February. Ideal candidates will be keen to learn, have good problem solving ability, strong communication skills and a sound academic record. Targeted disciplines for our consulting positions include Actuarial Studies, Mathematics, Statistics and Engineering.

Analyst (Software)
We are seeking someone to support the actuarial / software development needs of the consulting client project team. You will be responsible for receiving client data, analysing and preparing reports/presentations. As well as assisting with the maintenance and development of existing software / products for client programs.
The ideal candidate will be flexible and adaptable, working in a matrix system and changing environments. You will be self motivated and be able to work independently with a desire to learn and succeed.
Technical Skills
- Database and query design, Microsoft SQL Server – intermediate
- Microsoft Access, Excel and VBA – intermediate
- Data mining capabilities / DBA
- SAP – desirable
Essential Skills / Experience
- Graduate qualification with good academic background – maths, computing, engineering and statistics all highly regarded
- Ideally 1-2 years experience within a business environment where database maintenance and data manipulation has been a requirement
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with emphasis on quality output
- Effective communication skills required to interact with variety of internal clients, (possible external)

Database Warehouse Specialist (Design) – Mid / Senior
We are seeking an experienced senior SQL Server data warehouse developer to manage the datawarehouse environment for the development of new and existing software products.
The successful applicant will be responsible for planning, managing and directing the design, implementation and maintenance of large scale application databases, ensuring the integrity, security and accessibility of business data, with an emphasis on meeting database performance objectives.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Development and implementation of strategies to combine operational and historical data and make it available to users in a shared, secure and controlled manner
- Development and review of database and OLAP cube design to maximise performance of queries and data updates
- Creation of specifications, design and other documentation as necessary to facilitate the development and support of data warehouse applications
- Review of the data warehousing system including evaluation of software selection, hardware platform and access tool and contribute to ongoing process improvement
Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience in designing OLAP data cubes [in particular those implemented with Microsoft’s SQL Server Analysis Services 2005+]
- Efficient database design and experience with Microsoft SQL Server technologies: MDX, T-SQL, Integration Services and Reporting Services experience desirable
- Proven experience with data cube performance optimisation techniques including partitioning, parallelism, tuning hardware resources
- Successful development of maintainable, extensible, high performance data warehouse application architectures
- Confident operating within agile development processes
- Project planning, managing and estimation experience
Senior Software Developer
We are seeking a Senior Developer with 4 – 5 years experience to be responsible for leading the design and development of software products, ensuring quality control and delivery of high end programs. The role also entails providing guidance and coaching to junior team members and taking an active role in continued process improvement.
Key functions
- Requirements analysis, high-level system design and object modelling of new software products and ensuring adequate testing and quality control measures are followed
- Development and construction of new products’ architecture, functionality and data structures
- Enhancement and maintenance of existing software products
- Lead the development of test suites and automated test procedures
- Manage projects, including preparing plan and cost estimation
- Demonstrate IT applications by conducting presentations to clients
- Creation of specifications, design and other documentation as necessary
Required Technical Skills
- C# / Java / C++ / Delphi language background (C# experience desirable, but deep understanding of a mainstream OO language essential)
- Efficient database design and experience with SQL Server technologies: T-SQL, DTS, SSIS and Reporting Services. OLAP experience desirable
- Successful development of maintainable, extensible, high performance software application architectures
- Confident with managing agile development processes
- Developing highly interactive and graphically intensive user interfaces
- Project planning, managing and estimation experience
Essential Skills / Experience

Intern - Technical Analyst (Software)
We are currently seeking interns who are looking to be part of the development of an innovative new information service. The service is the first of its kind available in Australia.
The successful candidate will be involved on a day to day basis in text mining and data analysis, and will be working as part of a larger team. The role will give the candidate an opportunity to demonstrate initiative and present new ideas for solutions to challenging problems, as well as develop an understanding of the broader commercial context of product development.
We are looking for personable individuals with a good team spirit, a logical approach to problem solving, and a readiness to attempt daunting and challenging tasks without hesitation. The successful individual should have some exposure to object oriented programming methods.
